This presentation highlights my experience as a tutor and academic mentor in the Boston Scholar-Athletes program. I chose to volunteer here as I was a very serious athlete in high school, and still consider myself to be. As I participated in the IB Curriculum, one that is particularly known for its heavy workload coupled with an emphasis on time management, I regularly found myself facing a dilemma regarding which activities to give my attention. I played soccer both for and outside of my high school as well as maintaining my status as a high honor student. This ultimately inspired me to volunteer with the Boston Scholar-Athletes program. I believe that athletics build character, especially during the formative stages of life. Likewise, I believe that being a versatile student and athlete creates a well-rounded character and provides lessons on discipline, leadership and team work among other things.
