In a city changing as quickly as Boston, it’s important for policymakers and community groups to have access to data as quickly as possible.  Using Craigslist data, I was able to develop methods for tracking rising inequality in almost real time.  I am hopeful that this will allow governments and nonprofits to address the negative consequences of rising inequality more quickly and efficiently. Meeting with the professionals who came in to our data workshops helped steer my research towards providing a meaningful tool to my community.  Once I found intriguing patterns in my data, city walk explorations helped me better understand my data by grounding them in the ‘real life’ of actual people.
