Placemaking is the process of planning, management and design of urban spaces using local and community assets in order to improve the space that residents live in. For this project, our goal was to evaluate three MONUM winter placemaking prototypes that serve the purpose of improving the quality of life for residents in the city of Boston in the winter season. The three prototypes evaluated were: PlaySheds, Snow removal services, and Post-Storm Swarm Pop-up events. All three prototypes were designed and implemented throughout Boston and our goal was to evaluate the efficacy of each prototype in improving the winter experience for residents. Our data presented mixed results but so far highlights a common theme: winter is a difficult time for many residents in Boston and the city needs to do more in order to improve residents’ experiences during this time.
