Course: RSSN2102 Intermediate Russian 2
Throughout this semester, students visited various sites where they would spend time conversating with Russian elderly. The students came in once a week and were able to form great bonds with the elderly, while learning Russian themselves. A student even befriended and got the phone number of one of the elderly folks. Although Russian is the 9th most spoken language in America, many people from older generations are language isolated. Thus, for adults whose only language is Russian, it is very challenging being unable to speak to those around you. Through this service-learning program, students were able to help the elderly express themselves and just enjoy themselves that much more! While there is no perfect way of showing all the great times the students and elderly had, hopefully through this presentation, it can be truly seen how much the elderly enjoyed having the students there!
