The “Keys to a Healthy Plate” handout reinforces the nutrition concepts we taught to 2nd and 3rd graders during the workshops at the Old Lincoln School in Brookline, emphasizing balanced meals with proteins, whole grains, healthy fats, and fruits and vegetables. This handout was given to the children after the workshop to bring home to their guardians/caretakers. It encourages family participation by promoting cooking and modeling healthy eating habits. Featuring two simple, kid-friendly recipes—Vegetable and Egg Scramble with Whole-Grain Toast and Chicken/Tofu & Veggie Stir-Fry with Brown Rice—the handout helps families practice the Balanced Plate concept at home, making healthy eating an interactive and enjoyable experience that supports lifelong wellness. This take-home resource is essential because it extends the learning experience beyond the classroom, fostering a collaborative environment where parents/guardians and children can practice healthy habits together.
