Our research report examines the Northeastern student body and their knowledge and attitudes towards the United States prison system. We aimed to learn more about how much education surrounds the prison system and its related topics. This study will help Northeastern’s Student Alliance for Prison Reform club better tailor their teachings and activities to have a larger impact. During our first SAPR meeting we were surprised at how many misconceptions there are about the prison system and how many statistics exist that we did not know about. Now at the end of our semester we are curious to see what the rest of the student body knows about these same topics.
Our service-learning course gave us the skills to better the partnership with our student group through readings on transdisciplinary. We learned a lot about how to come together as a group to make a final output. We each came from different academic backgrounds and majors and were able to work without student group to help them with future visibility.
