Abstract: The Foster Grandparents Program (FGP) has been in existence since the establishment of the Community Action Network in 1964 based on the Economic Opportunity Act. FGP relies on grants and support from AmeriCorps and volunteers who work to mentor the young and vulnerable children under the organization’s support. Although the FGP receives grants to finance its operations and support to children, it needs volunteers to work in providing academic and social support to children with special and exceptional needs across the greater Boston region. The program relies largely on volunteers from senior citizens aged 55 years and above. Among the primary challenges facing the program is the lack of extra volunteers to assist in various initiatives. Lack of proper communication strategies is among the primary reasons why the program has not been doing well to attract, recruit, and retain volunteers in the long term. The program has an opportunity to transform this scenario by implementing strategic, robust, and well-thought-out communication strategies to recruit the target number of volunteers throughout the year.
