Abstract: In partnership with MPF, our project is focused on creating a visual understanding of the emotional and cognitive engagement changes for youth that MPF fellows engaged with – compared to youth that MPF fellows did not engage with – during OST interventions in the 2019-2020 academic year. Analyzing youth-reported attitudes of the program will allow an understanding of these emotional and cognitive impacts, which can inform improvements and changes to the MPF program going forward. Further, exemplifying positive changes can increase MPF’s ability to secure future funding through more comprehensive grant reports. This project will analyze changes before and after the MPF program interventions through Pre/Post youth survey data, based on the Survey of Academic Youth Outcomes (SAYO) model. We created a interactive web based visualization where a user can see the change in cognitive engagement by the program partners MPF works with, as well as a set of visualizations that show the distribution of students’ cognitive and emotional engagement initially and after the program. We hope this will help MPF find valuable insights, especially during a year when COVID impacted their programs and survey capabilities.
