Throughout the semester in Asian American Cinemas, we learned about independent Asian American filmmaking through the community here in Boston, as represented by the Boston Asian American Film Festival, a production of the Asian American Resource Workshop. The archives of BAAF and AARW are held at Northeastern University Special Collections, but they are for the most part undigitized. Under the guidance of Molly Brown at Snell Library, we selected significant materials from the archives to represent forty years of media activism. With the assistance of Gregory Lord, we built a digital archive of those items on Omeka and created a visualization in the form of a timeline. We hope that this gives the public a sense of the incredible artistry and activism in the Asian American communities of Boston.
